The Society of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Neurological Surgery

Introduction

The Society of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Neurological Surgery (ITMNS) of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Healthcare was established as a nationwide, academic, industry-specific, and nonprofit social organization. It is open to entities or individuals engaged in clinical neurosurgery, applied basic research, and the development, production, operation, investment, product testing, certification consulting, and education and training related to biomedical devices.

ITMNS is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It fully implements the Party's basic theories, basic lines, basic strategies, adheres to the "original mission," supports the implementation of the Healthy China strategy, and accelerates the development and innovation of biomedical devices in neurological surgery. Under the leadership of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Healthcare, ITMNS unites all its members, neurosurgeons, and those involved in the development, production, and investment of biomedical devices related to neurological surgery. Together, they protect the legitimate rights and interests of patentees, create an efficient "medical-engineering collaboration" platform, accelerate the transformation of clinical and basic research achievements in neurosurgery in China, improve the level of neurological disease treatment, and benefit patients.

Conference Highlights

The conference consisted of two units: "Progress of the Society of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Neurological Surgery of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Healthcare" and "Final Review of 'Ingenious Techniques' 2022 Neurosurgery Innovation and Technology Appraisal Meeting." It showcased the association's work, past successful cases of transformation, policy support, patent inventions, and more. The diverse and enriched content provided a scholarly feast of innovative technology transformation for neurosurgeons nationwide.

Progress of the Society of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Neurological Surgery of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Healthcare

This unit aimed to inspire innovation from various perspectives. With the advancement of the times, robots are subtly entering people's lives and, unsurprisingly, are making their way into the medical field. Professor Chen Xin started with the "Terminator" and introduced the current use of medical-related robots in clinical settings, believing that the applicability of this technology will become increasingly widespread. Professor Wu Qun, through the combination of medical and engineering approaches, simplified and secured the cumbersome operation of neuroendoscopy, making imaging clearer. As a market and technological end of translational medicine from concept to reality, Ms. Cao Dandan and Mr. Dong Miao elucidated the current demand in the domestic medical market and the process of transforming research results from commercial and R&D technology perspectives. Mr. Zhou Guangqi expounded on the current government's support for medical innovation from a policy perspective.

'Ingenious Techniques' Neurosurgery Innovation and Technology Appraisal Meeting Sets Sail Again

The "Ingenious Techniques" 2022 Neurosurgery Innovation and Technology Appraisal Meeting was exclusively sponsored by Bushang Pharmaceuticals and themed "Facing clinical needs, supporting the transformation of research results." It pre-selected nine outstanding neurosurgery patents nationwide to participate in the final appraisal meeting. Twenty senior clinical experts from across the country, eight representatives from the Device Review Center, innovative R&D enterprises, regulatory and investment institutions, evaluated and scored each project based on clinical significance, innovation, technical maturity, market prospects, and business models. Ultimately, six projects with the most transformation value were selected. Professor Wu Qun from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University submitted the project "Visualization of Flexible Ventricular Surgical Instruments," which won the Golden Incubation Fund. The expectation is that the outstanding award-winning projects can take the next step toward transformation on the platform built by the Society of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Neurological Surgery of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Healthcare.
